Off With Her Head!
Many years ago my friends endeared me with the nickname "Alice" which meant either I was a dreamer or a true blonde! In either case, I have decided to make several Alice dolls. This is the first of the series in which she has met the Red Queen or Queen of Hearts and has just been given the word that her head should be removed!
Each doll is made by hand, right down to their costumes and shoes. Alice is 10 inches tall and has a polymer clay head, torso, arms, and feet, including the shoes. She has a soft body. Her costume is made of various materials, mainly cotton with organza ribbons. It includes her tights, bloomers, petticoat, dress and pinafore. She has 'mushrooms' in her pockets! Her hair is human hair extensions like you would find to make a weave in your own hair. Her eyes were made before I inserted them into the head of the doll. They are made of polymer and are hand-painted with Genesis paints. The rest of the painting on the doll is also done with Genesis paints. She has tiny buttons on the back of her dress and tiny buckles on her shoes. Her head is moveable.
The Queen of Hearts is 12 inches tall and also has a head, torso, arms and hands and shoes made of polymer clay. She was also painted with Genesis paints and her eyes were made in the same manner as Alice's eyes. Her head is also moveable. Her hair is tibetan lamb's wool and her crown in ribbon with metal and crystal accents. The costume includes a petticoat; an underskirt which has lace and beaded embellishments; the overskirt that is trimmed in ribbons; a bodice with a metal heart attached to lace, and the bodice is also trimmed in ribbons; the sleeves are raw silk material and have velvet cuffs with heart and crystal embellishments; and finally the coat which is trimmed with metal hearts, a key and a silk 'card back', and various ribbons. Her staff is metal with an enamel heart at the top. The dolls have magnets in their shoes and the board they are standing on is metal, painted in a black and white diamond pattern.
